Your mind can play tricks on you.  Everything you think about the world, others and yourself is based on your perception. And we all know that perception is not reality. It can be influenced by your culture, age, marital status, life experiences and current state of mind. For example, if you are depressed, everything will be tainted with doom and gloom. If you were raised in an all white upper middle class community you may see the world through rosy glasses and so on. You know what I’m talking about. So how does one avoid having this skewed world view. You listen to your creator: God.

“Don’t allow your mind to tell you something your God didn’t say.”

Since you now know that your mind is influenced in some way by your perception, I recommend you to counter your thoughts with the word of God found in the Bible.

When your mind says: “I am ugly.” …. God says: “You are fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalms 139: 13

When your mind says: “I will never amount to anything.” …. God says: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29: 11

When your mind says: “Why is this happening to me? I’m so unlucky.” …. God says: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8: 28

When your mind says: “I’m all alone. No one cares about me.” … God says: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13: 5

So the next time your mind is speaking don’t to listen to it to a T. Get some perspective from the Bible first to make sure what your mind is saying is actually true.
