I came across this #ConsciousChic Memo I posted on Instagram about 3 weeks ago and I would like to share my thoughts on it with you today.

This quote (my own words) depicts a crucial moment in every individual’s life: the moment when he or she decides what career to pursue. There are so many factors to take into consideration during this process: personal interests, innate abilities, desired lifestyle and purchasing power, scholarships or the lack thereof,  grades, parental expectations etc. And to think that  this very important decision has to be made by a 16 or 17-year-old who is about to graduate high-school. That’s a big responsibility don’t you think? Needless to say that many end up wandering from major to major for years before settling on a career path, others get a degree only to find out that they hate their job a few years later. There has to be a better way.

This quote may seem simplistic but it is so profound. It poses a fundamental question that demands an answer: what do I want to do with my life and how do I know I made the right choice?

As always I want to hear from you. How did you choose your career path? What advice would you give someone who hasn’t quite found their way yet?

    My path was quire unexpected. I had very different plans. LIFE and a great mentor shoved me toward my purpose.

    I also must add that it’s OK to go from major to major or be still figuring it out at a young age. I think that needs to be stressed more often. I also think it’s best to diversify one’s endeavors to finding what they love. It doesn’t have to be one thing. That age-old mentality of “PICK ON and be that for the rest of your life” is quite stifling and archaic. We should all have focus but just know it’s okay to want to do multiple things. Actually, as you get older, you wants/needs/desires change and to be honest, you may choose a totally different career by age 30 and 40 or a whole different lane without your chosen industry.

    SO I’d add to this that it’s not “Bad” or “Wrong” to have a multifaceted or very curvy path to career fulfillment or choice. It’s a PROCESS just like life and it’s not one that will always be linear, fun, good, perfect or unchanging.

    Wow! That’s thought provoking! I wish I had an earth shattering revelation to share but I really don’t. My steps were ordered from the get go… It’s been a fun journey getting to this place but I believe it was all part of HIS divine plan. One thing I do know is not to discount the many experiences I’ve had along the way; shaped by mentors, curiosity, shortfalls and triumphs alike. ALL played a major role in preparing me for where I am now- living my purpose- will passion!
