DETAILS Magazine hosted the second edition of their Tech x Tastemakers Summit in New York during fashion week. They created this event to gather the leading minds in fashion, technology and retail. The morning consisted in panel discussions, networking sessions, food and drinks, of course.
Dan Peres, editor-in-chief of DETAILS Magazine welcomed us to the summit with a few words and clever jokes. He then passed the baton to our host for the day, Max Lugavere, creator and host of Acting Disruptive. Each panel was engaging and interactive with a Q&A. The wide array of panelists included Gene Cook (eBay), José Neves (Farfetch), Peter Vidani (Tumblr), Dan Rookwood (MR PORTER), Keith George (Gilt) and Mimi Valdés (i am OTHER) to just name a few. Each panelist, a leader in their field, shared interesting insights on the role of technology in their respective spheres of influence.
The highlight of the summit for me was the FUTURE FASHION panel with the creators of RAW FOR THE OCEANS. As you may remember, this collaboration was announced on Fashion With A Conscience back in February. As I mentioned then, the partnership was born when a group of guys came together because they had one thing in common: a sense of calling to save the oceans. Shubhankar Ray, global brand director of G-Star RAW, Tyson Toussant and Tim Coombs the co-founders of Bionic Yarn and the moderator for the panel, Cyrill Gutsch, founder of Parley for the Oceans (Berlin) created a denim line made from recycled plastic straight from the oceans. The face of the brand, Pharell Williams who is also a co-founder of Bionic Yarn completes the dream team.
In the light of their overwhelming success, Bionic Yarn plans to make their revolutionary thread available to manufacturers worldwide. Now, that’s Conscious & Chic!
