Hey there, I’m Kathleen and I’m a kitchen beautician!
Let’s talk about something near and dear to my heart: skincare. Your skin is the largest organ in your body, so it deserves some extra love and attention.
Now, if you’re anything like me, you’re probably a bit cautious about what you put on your skin. Those over-the-counter lotions? They often contain a laundry list of chemicals and lack the nourishing ingredients our skin truly needs. So, I decided to create my own.
I few years ago, I shared a fabulous body butter recipe from my friend Brittany, and let me tell you, it’s an absolute game-changer. This Shea Coconut Body Butter is not only moisturizing but also smells divine, without leaving you feeling like a greasy mess. Interested? Of course, you are!
Let me share Brittany’s recipe with you. Trust me, your skin will thank you!
Shea Coconut Body Butter
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup of Raw Shea Butter
- ½ Cup of Unrefined Coconut Oil
- 40 Drops of Essential Oil (I’m partial to Lavender Oil for its calming scent)
- 2 Teaspoons of Cornstarch
Instructions:
- Melt the Shea Butter using the double boiler method. Keep an eye on it!
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the melted Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Essential Oil, and Cornstarch. Then, whip it up real good with an electric mixer on high. Trust me, you’ll want those soft peaks!
- Stick your mixture in the freezer for a quick 5-minute chill session. Meanwhile, why not indulge in a snack? It’s optional but highly recommended!
- Take your bowl out of the freezer and plop it into an ice bath. Make sure your container is big enough to give your mixture a proper cool-down.
- Whip it, whip it real good! Keep that mixer going until you’ve got those soft peaks we talked about earlier. Don’t forget to scrape down the sides of the bowl for good measure.
- Once you’ve achieved buttery perfection, spoon your creation into your favorite containers. I usually opt for a large mason jar and a couple of smaller face cream containers.
Health Benefits:
- Shea Butter: Moisturizing, reduces inflammation, and leaves your skin feeling silky smooth.
- Coconut Oil: Locks in moisture, fights signs of aging, and leaves your skin feeling oh-so-soft.
- Cornstarch: Helps soothe inflammation and absorbs excess oil.
- Lavender Oil: Banishes pesky acne, fights off bacteria, and leaves your skin looking radiant.
I started making this body butter after taking a good look at the ingredients in commercial lotions. Let’s just say I wasn’t impressed. Most of them are loaded with water, petrolatum, mineral oil, and alcohol—ingredients that do little to truly nourish your skin.
Oh, and one last thing: make sure you give your mixer and bowls a thorough wash afterward. We don’t want any oily residue lingering around.
So there you have it, lovelies—soft, baby-smooth skin! Enjoy covering yourself with this yummy body butter, and remember: your skin deserves all the love in the world.
PS: I also use it in my hair and my crown loves it!
