In celebration of Earth Day, I partnered with THE KIT to bring you jaw-dropping effortless fashion pieces which are as fashionable as they are ethical. THE KIT is the brain child of Project Runway finalist, Daniel Vosovic. As a Project Runway contestant, Daniel Vosovic brought the fire week after week and made it all the way to the top 2. Although he didn’t win, this serial challenge winner gained a lot from the show including confidence in his purpose and exposure.
I have never met Vosovic in person but I know from listening to him and experiencing his fashion that we are kindred spirits. In an interview with Resonance, he expressed emotions that felt but too familiar to me. He said, in regards to challenging how products are made and consumed in the fashion industry: “I can either shy away from this change (sustainability) that’s happening or I can throw everything up in the air and try to reconfigure and rebuild what this looks like.” This hit home because I had to make the same decision years ago: either ride the wave of conformity in fashion or push the boundaries and advocate for sustainability and ethical fashion which I knew was the right thing to do. I chose the later and here we are.
For Earth Day, Vosovic has chosen to support environmental non-profit Cool Effect to raise awareness for tangible actions to help fight climate change. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of THE KIT clothing from April 22nd through April 30th will be donated to Cool Effect’s carbon pollution reduction projects. Shopping sustainable fashion is a great way to support this worthy cause. Here’s the Conscious & the Chic on THE KIT and why you will want the entire collection.
THE CONSCIOUS: Designer fashion fast… and responsible.
I was happy to discover Vosovic’s sustainable philosophy for THE KIT. Team work, innovation, quick turnarounds and undeniable style without ethical compromise are values I deeply connect with. Created in 2017, THE KIT brought a different edge to the sustainable fashion industry and the fashion industry at large. Their products are made in small batches enabling Vosovic to create new styles to his heart’s content without sacrificing quality or THE KIT’S ethical ecosystem. From conception to retail through manufacturing, THE KIT’s supply chain is empowering to people, safe for the environment and fabulous for the consumer.
THE CHIC: You can have it all.
Every piece in THE KIT’s current collection is chic and easy to wear. I like the clean lines, vibrant prints and color choices. There is no lack of attention to detail, here. His designs are bold yet wearable, chic yet comfortable. The collection features basic pieces as well as anything-but-basic styles such as tops with asymmetrical details, printed separates, high-waisted pinstripe trousers, faux-wrap skirts, kimonos and slogan sweatshirts that say “Clothes are just clothes”. Vosovic’s unique signature style shines through every piece which makes them unique in their own way. I particularly love the shirtdresses and kimonos.
My favorite piece in the collection is the Cobie Shirtdress which comes in two prints, the Scattered Florals and Upstate Florals. I chose the Scattered Florals print, perfect for spring and summer. Made in a rayon-spandex blend, the fitted-waist, full skirt design hugs the body where it counts and flows the rest of the way.
I styled it in two ways.
Look #1: Casual Chic
For the 1st look, I created an easy daytime outfit, perfect for brunch with the girls or a day at the office in a creative agency. I paired the button-front stunner with a pair of blue skinny jeans, Live The Give black tank top, L’Intervalle burgundy booties, white braided belt and Haiti Design Co clutch which was a part of Change Co’s winter box.
Pro tip: Long shirtdresses make fabulous dusters because of their length and
flow. When choosing a dress to wear as a faux-cardigan make sure it can be fully
unbuttoned or unzipped.
The Cobie Shirtdress is ankle-length which makes it easy to wear as a duster. Did somebody say 2 for 1?
Look #2: Issa Lewk
For the second look, I created a nighttime-friendly outfit and wore the Cobie as a dress. I accessorized it with one of my favorite thrifted hats and earrings. Also featured are my favorite BCBG Max Azria booties and Naeve bar rings. I matched the burgundy shade in the Scattered Floral print with a Pixie Mood vegan leather handbag.
Whenever I wear the Cobie Shirtdress, I feel like a million dollars. The softness of the fabric, uncomplicated style and ethics behind the brand make THE KIT a staple in my wardrobe.
Here are my favorite pieces from the collection.
Cobie Shirtdress, Upstate Florals
Leah Midi Sheath, Scratch Plaid Print
Silvia Wrap Skirt, Navy Dot Stripe
If you are looking for new sustainable fashion pieces to spruce up your spring closet, I highly recommend you shop THE KIT. Mother Earth will thank you!
Happy Earth Day!
