Around this time last week, I was featured on The Good Trade. They asked me to share ‘A Week of Outfits’ and my style philosophy. In the post, I shared a bit about my upbringing and how it influenced how I see and engage with fashion. I highly recommend you check out the feature on The Good Trade.
Before you go though, I want to let you in on my day-to-day fashion philosophy and how I choose what to wear philosophically each day. I hope my musings help change the way you see and experience fashion in your daily routine.
1. It’s not that serious!
I like to have fun with my style. I more often than not miss-match one of more pieces in every look. Mixing textures and colors adds an unexpected factor and an element of surprise which I enjoy. If I can get someone to say, “Wow, I didn’t see that coming” I’ve accomplished my mission.
2. Dress how you want to be addressed!
I believe in having fun but also in portraying myself on the outside the way I feel on the inside. Since I have self-respect, I dress accordingly. Coordinating looks is quite intuitive for me and flow from how I feel on any particular day. I don’t put looks together as much as they pair themselves in my minds eye.
3. It’s just clothes!
Keeping my closet as conflict-free as possible is major key because I don’t believe one can fight for women’s rights in one country yet exploit them in another. Therefore, I refuse for my consumption habits to enslave other people. It’s just clothes!
