The Fashion & Design Festival (FMD) was just a few weeks ago and I have yet to come down from my fashion high! I had several memorable encounters including fashion designer to the stars Jean-Charles De Castelbajac, TV personality & DJ Angelo Cadet, and the FMD spokesperson & host Genevieve Borne which I interviewed during the festival.
Borne who was fascinated by fashion from a very young age made it into her career and has had a lot of success in the industry. I spent some time with her for a little girl talk about her career, travel and fashion, of course! Hope you enjoy this up close and personal moment with her!
FWAC: How did you become Fashion & Design Festival’s spokesperson?
GB: I’ve been in the fashion world for such a long time. My mother, Louise L’Heureux was a model for 15 years and I’ve also been a model since my teenage years. I later became a spokesperson for many things: I’ve been a Cover Girl, here in Quebec, and for many other campaigns… I’m a television host, that’s my main job. I host a music show and travel shows. I’m having a lot of fun.
FWAC: What are the names of the shows you host?
GB: The music show I host is: Belle et Bum. Belle means “beautiful” and Bum means “rebel” in French. I’m co-hosting it with a guy. We have many guests each week and they come to play live and it’s fun!
FWAC: Is the “bum” part of the title for your co-host or do you also have a bit of a rebellious side?
GB: I do have a bit of that rebellious side. Absolutely, I do! … I also host travel shows where I travel to foreign to countries like: China, India, Indonesia and Vietnam. I shoot 13 episodes on all these countries.
FWAC: What advice would you give to someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?
GB: My advice for anyone who has dreams and wants to do something with their lives is to:
do something everyday that brings you closer to your dreams. Everyday you try something, you make a little step in the direction you want to go and you will reach it.
FWAC:Â Tell me about a cause that is dear to your heart?
GB: Children. I’m the spokesperson for World Vision and we’ve just got back from India. We went to see what they do on the field and see what they do for children. We also shot a documentary and it’s quite fascinating.
FWAC:Â Where can we watch your documentary?
GB: It’s online at: www.visionmondiale.ca
We also have a petition called “Contre L’Exploitation Des Enfants” which means: “Against Child Exploitation.” To tell our governments to be conscious of what we are buying and what we are importing – if it was fabricated by children who are being exploited. You can’t stop children from working in those countries because everyone has to bring money into the household but you can make sure that they have rights and that they are working in a context where they are in a safe place.
FWAC: It’s a great cause and we have to educate the consumer about it. Thank you for your time.
GB: Absolutely! It was my pleasure.
Stay Conscious + Chic!
